Environmental Testing

Radon Testing

Radon is an odorless and colorless gas. Radon’s radioactive gas comes from the naturally occurring decay of uranium in rock, soil, and water. It is nearly impossible to detect without the proper equipment, training, and certification from the Department of Environmental Protection. Traveling up from the ground to the air above, radon gas enters the home through cracks and holes in the drain pipes, floors, foundations, or even well water, and becomes trapped inside structures.

Radon has been identified as the second leading cause of lung cancer by the US Environmental Protection Agency and is found in all 50 states. There is no way to know if harmful levels of radon are present in your home without proper testing. Radon is measured in "pico curies per liter of air" (pCi/L). A level of 8.0 pCi/L is as damaging to your lungs as getting 400 chest x-rays in a year, or smoking 16 cigarettes per day. Radon is a major contributing cause of lung cancer and is believed to have an even more devastating impact on children.

As a homeowner, potential buyer, builder, or real estate broker it is imperative that you understand what risk radon poses to you, your family, or your clients. Radon detection is simple, affordable and can raise the alarm to potentially deadly dangers.
